New Year Dental Resolutions

dental care resolutions

A lot of adults shy away from getting their teeth right, but if you look around, I am sure you will notice more and more people are having dental treatment much later in life. Many people make new resolutions in the New Year, why not start doing it for your dental care.

Teeth, especially crooked ones, are a common source of self-consciousness for many adults and teens. However, you can now straighten your teeth in a short amount of time thanks to the latest trends in orthodontics. Spending some time wearing braces is an excellent investment!

Let’s look at some resolutions to help your teeth which we can start in the New Year.

Quit smoking

Discontinuing smoking is a big start to clean dental care, smoking is one of the most dangerous habits for your health. It’s a recognized risk factor for things like gum disease and tooth loss as well as dental implants. Without giving up smoking, it can be difficult (if not impossible) to live with these consequences.

Go the full length

For optimal oral health, it’s not enough to just brush twice a day – you need to brush for 2 minutes each time. However, if that sounds excessive, try brushing for 10 seconds on each quadrant of your mouth.

Cut down on Acidic Drinks

Acidic drinks like Coke or any Energy Drinks can be very bad for your dental care. Drinking too much of these drinks can have negative consequences on your health. If you are already drinking them excessively, try to reduce the amount you’re consuming by cutting down to no more than once a day. This reduction will help keep the enamel on your teeth looking its best.

Whiten your Smile

Our teeth can get stained by all sorts of foods and drinks so whiten your teeth in the new year.  There are lots of ways to get a whiter smile, with many high-street options available. Eating healthy and good dental care will ensure you don’t let stains take away from your healthy-looking smile.  For more information about whitening, arrange a consultation with our dental hygienist.

Flossing

It’s highly recommended that people floss their teeth once a day. However, we are a little more realistic about people starting a new endeavor in January, and realise that it will need to be implemented over time. Start once a week and build up to regular flossing throughout the year. Your teeth will thank you for your new habit.

Be comfortable with your Smile

If you want to improve the appearance and function of your smile, make 2022 the year you finally get a consultation with an orthodontic professional. Straighter teeth have lots of benefits, including for many, better mental health. Here at OrthoDental, we want to make you happy with your smile. It will be worth it in the long run.

Regular Dental Checkups

Another great resolution for the year is to check in on your orthodontist regularly. If you’ve not been getting regular dental care in the past, now is a good time to start. Twice a year visits to your dentist is a good thing. This will get you into a healthy habit of making sure your teeth are healthy and looked after. For any appointment, inquiries check Here
