Why Choose Invisalign Over Traditional Braces

If you are worried about crooked teeth or have been hiding that smile for too long, you have probably often considered getting braces. The most common way to fix your smile, boost your confidence and have the teeth that you have always dreamed of. Did you know that now there is an even better way to get that smile back on your face?
That new way is Invisalign, you may have heard of it, but you also may not have. There are quite a few reasons that you should choose Invisalign over traditional braces and here at Orthodental we want to explain why Invisalign can be a far better option than metal braces.
Far less Intrusive:
Invisalign uses clear removable aligners that don’t feel intrusive. Often people will not even know you are wearing them.
You no longer have to worry about food getting stuck in your braces or people asking inappropriate questions about your teeth.
We find our adult patients prefer Invisalign over traditional braces as it allows them to continue life as normal while also gaining that great smile.
Maintain Great Oral Hygiene:
Although braces do not create bad oral hygiene, they do make cleaning your teeth a far more complicated affair. You must work around brackets and wires and if food particles get stuck in tricky places it can be quite irritating.
As the aligners are removable you can clean both your teeth and your aligners in the same great way that you always have.
Maintain your Favourite Diet:
Braces can restrict what you eat for quite some time. Hard and sticky foods are often off-limits while you wear traditional braces. This food can cause damage and unwanted moving.
With Invisalign aligners, you can continue to eat all your favourite foods without any restrictions. You must remember to clean your teeth properly before placing your aligners back in.
More Comfortable and Easier to Maintain:
When you use Invisalign you typically receive a new pair of clear aligners every two to four weeks. There may be some tightness in the initial day or two, but following this, they are far more comfortable.
You don’t have to live nearby to receive your aligners as they can be posted to you.
If you were to wear braces you would have to visit your orthodontist every few weeks, to have your braces manually tightened. This can be an unpleasant experience. It means you must plan your schedule around your appointments rather than simply waiting at home for a new arrival.
That all sounds great but what are the downsides?
You may be wondering what the drawbacks are for Invisalign treatments and at Orthodental we want to be fully honest with our patients. The two primary drawbacks which should be considered is the length of time of treatments and the cost.
Length of treatment: Traditional metal braces are faster than Invisalign aligners, but not by much. The reason for this, far more pressure can be used with the manual tightening of metal braces. This does cause far more discomfort than Invisalign, also traditional braces are far more visible.
For those who prefer comfort, the same great treatment and a non-intrusive method to straightening your teeth, then Invisalign is the way to go.
The cost: Invisalign does cost more than traditional braces, but this again is on a patient-by-patient basis. The main reason for the additional costs is the creation of different aligners throughout the treatment process.
It is important to talk to your orthodontist about the cost and length of time for treatment. in many cases, you will find that the cost is extremely reasonable for the comfort and care that you will receive.
